I submit to you the power of the Mac. OSX has a key combo (Option-Shift-3) for whole-screen. Another key combo (Option-Shift-4) enables you to select the space to grab. When in that mode, you can hit space bar and click a window, which grabs not only the window, but the shadow-effect for that window. And, best of all, it creates these in PNG--with transparency for the shadowing--by default.
Windows just caught up from its old "Use 'Print Screen,' and then paste into MS Paint" method.
